The Confidence Trick is the second episode of the first season of The New Worst Witch. It was preceded by Give a Witch a Bad Name, and followed by Rules Rules Rules.
Plot[]
It is the Broomstick Aptitude Test, and Hettie passes with flying colours, But Cressie fails. Hettie begs Miss Cackle to give Cressie a second chance, like she did with Mildred.
Mona and Hettie try to think of ways to inspire her confidence. they go to Caspian to find the ingrediants to a confidence potion. They try it out, but Cressie backs out of drinking it at the last minute, and drops of potion cause the table to disslove into a white liquid.
Instead of the usual witch cat Hettie really wants a dog, so Belladonna schemes against Hettie by making her wish come true that she would rather have a dog, which she gets from her grandmother so she turns it into a cat and switches name tags. In the great hall when she gets her cat she pretends that she found it out in the woods and gives it to Dyllis to look after. When Miss Hardbroom finds out she is really angry and thinks that Hettie has turned her cat into a dog.
Hettie soon worries that there is something wrong with her cat, so she goes to see Caspian who is working on his golden potion which dissloves thanks to Mona. He doesn't believe it is real gold so they come up with another idea to make her believe that something will bring her luck - to make her feel more confident Hettie gives her a good luck stone and Miss Nightingale lends Cressie her special broomstick.
Eventually Hettie discovers her cat to be a dog so storms off to Belladona, only the cat jumps out the window making Cressie fly to rescue it, also dropping the pebble, and she passes the test doing so, and gets to keep the cat and Miss Cackle allows Hettie to keep the dog (Kitty) much to Belladonna's annoyance.
