I know I'll sound like a bit of a nerd, if anyone ever reads this, for actually pondering this, but I noticed a bit of an inconsistency with the exact age of Cackle's Academy. Supposedly Algernon and Helibore had been there when the castle was used as a meeting place for wizards. But how old can Helibore be? There isn't a lot of information on the life span of wizards but he sure doesn't look old enough at least. Though he really could be older than a non-magical person could look at his age.

Hermione Cackle was the founder, and she is Miss Cackle's great great great great great grandmother, meaning if we're still assuming a witch has the same growth and life span of a non-magical person, we'll say for simplicity's sake Miss Cackle is 60 (Clare was 56, but that's not an easy enough number relative to the time I want to put into this mini essay) and Hermione was middle-aged when she founded the academy. Cackles is at its seventh generation owner who is about 60. We would be looking at a potential bare minimum of 180 years (say each Cackle has a child at 20), more likely extending to/after 300 years.

So, conclusion: either Helibore is ridiculously old—though he looks Miss Cackle's age—or there's a blaring inconsistency in the story, at least the TV series.

I noticed that too- I'd it's an inconsistency on the TV writer's part. the books never state how old Cackle's is. maybe Cackle's stated somewhere else and then moved to the castle later, or maybe the the wizards used it during school holidays? Decat (talk) 11:43, November 18, 2012 (UTC)

The school is 1,000 years old. They celebrate a "millennia of Cackles Academy" in both Mildred's time at Cackles' and then again in Hettie's time there, making the school roughly 1,000 years old and established (assuming the show takes place when it was broadcast) in roughly the late 900s. --HarryPotterRules1 (talk) 02:25, January 20, 2014 (UTC)
